<--Wolverines!
The Wolverines. They ended up losing the Casino
Gardens job because they just didn't sway the
dinner crowd. The college kids loved them, but
only came on weekends. Imagine paying the $1
admission, and getting to hear the Wolverines!
The above ad is from an I.U. dance.
Wild Bill Davison was in this band. And
that's when he met Bix.
DID YOU KNOW?
That all of the Wolverines arrangments and
harmonies were worked out by Bix? He
would work his ideas out on the piano, and
would give each guy his note to play. It
sounds like hard work, but the band actually
had fun doing it this way! A good example
would be the harmony breaks on "Royal
Garden Blues." He had the front line playing
together instead of each taking a break as
most bands do.
This was Bix's idea, and his ideas
made that band the heroes of almost every
college band in the country!
Johnny Bayersdorffer can be heard on
the New Orleans CD's from Kazoo Lips!
I WANNA GO!
At one time it was written that Bix
was mentioned in the press only twice
during his lifetime. He seems to pop
up quite a bit .
A "Sock Artist", I
like that! The sad
truth is that if Bix
took off his socks,
there would be no
prom. Perhaps no
University.
Bobby Gillette enjoyed a long career
in showbiz. This is from 1964. His
banjo has just been donated to the
new Bix Museum in Davenport!
Al Gandee in a car accident in 1932. He
died in another car accident a few years
later.
Why, if Dick Voynow had been buying Kazoo Lips
Rare Jazz Cd's....never mind. I just can't do it.
OK boys. They don't like our Six Brown Brothers
medley. The nylons, gum and autographed photo of Leo
Gorcey didn't work either. Let's offer them a couple of
Kazoo Lips CD's!

    (That's a little better...but not much.)
