FRANK TRUMBAUER
KL - 7
Frank Trumbauer was one of the first jazz stylists of the
saxophone. Before Tram, the most popular of the Saxophone
players were the ones who were displaying triple-tonguing
techniques and similar displays of fireworks. Tram's ultra-smooth
style of playing inspired both Black and White musicians. His
influence on Lester Young is well known. As "Prez" said "When I
first heard Frank Trumbauer play, it just wounded my soul." he was
know to have kept a copy of "Singing The Blues" in his case for
years. Charlie "Bird" Parker was another jazz great who was known
to express his admiration for Frank Trumbauer and his music.

Tram left the music business and went into flying, his other big
passion in life. During WWII, Tram became a top flight instructor,
considered to be one of the best.
In the early 1950's Frank Trumbauer did a few radio shows as a
guest, and reflected on his musical career. Of course the topic
would usually steer towards Tram's close friend and musical
partner, Bix Beiderbecke.
There are some great stories on this CD, told as only Tram could.
He gives you a real idea on the mindset that went into some of the
most popular jazz recordings of the 1920's. As well as great stories
about Bix, Joe Venuti. Bing Crosby and the rest of his old musical
friends.
The second part of this CD features a Radio Broadcast from 1938
featuring the Frank Trumbauer Orchestra. This was one "Cracker
Jack" outfit that features the outstanding trumpet work of Mannie
Klein! This band was VERY advanced in their arrangements,
perhaps by at least by 10 years. This CD is really something to hear!
